After jet washing, the sand in your block paving joints gets washed out with the muck. We come back once it’s dry and brush fresh kiln-dried sand deep into every gap, locking your blocks tight and stopping weeds coming back.
It’s a proper finishing touch, not an optional extra. Without it, your blocks can shift, dip and let weeds take hold again. We do it properly so your drive stays solid and looking good. It’s usually the final step after our driveway cleaning service.
Loose blocks that rock when you walk on them, weeds sprouting up between the gaps, sand washing away every time it rains, your drive looking patchy and uneven. Sound familiar? That’s what happens when the sand goes missing from your joints.
That’s why sanding’s essential after a clean. We fill every joint with kiln-dried sand that locks everything in place. Your blocks stay put, weeds struggle to grow and your drive looks tidy for months.
When the sand’s gone from the joints, your blocks have nothing holding them tight. They can shift, sink and leave your drive uneven. Fresh sand locks them back in place solid.
Weeds need somewhere to root. Fresh sand fills the gaps so there’s nowhere for them to grab hold. Combined with a good clean first, it makes a massive difference.
Block paving that’s properly sanded stays stable, no shifting, no sinking, no loose edges. It’ll last years longer than one that’s been left to fall apart.
Fresh sand in the joints makes your drive look brand new. It’s the finishing touch that takes it from clean to mint. You’ll notice the difference straight away.
We only use kiln-dried sand, the proper stuff that flows into the narrowest gaps and locks together once it’s in place. No building sand or anything that’ll clump up and cause problems.
We brush it in by hand using a stiff broom, working it deep into every joint, then compact it down so it settles in properly. Any excess gets swept away. Clean, tidy and proper.
These prices are for sanding a driveway that’s already been cleaned, either by us or by you. Sand won’t bond properly on a dirty or damp surface, so if your drive hasn’t been cleaned recently, we’d recommend booking our driveway cleaning service first. Here’s a rough guide, but the exact figure always depends on the size of your drive and the condition of the joints.
| Driveway size | What’s included | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| Small Single car | Kiln-dried sand brushed and compacted into every joint | from £110 |
| Medium Two cars | Kiln-dried sand brushed and compacted into every joint | from £160 |
| Large Three cars or more, wrap-around | Kiln-dried sand brushed and compacted into every joint | from £210 |
These are starting prices for a standard re-sand on a clean, dry driveway. Heavily worn joints needing more sand, or awkward layouts that take longer to work into, can push the price toward the top of each range, we’ll always be upfront about that before we start. The easiest way to get an exact figure is to send us a couple of photos on WhatsApp, we’ll usually get a firm price back to you within about 10 minutes.
After jet washing, the joints need to be bone dry before we can sand. We’ll usually pop back a couple of days later once the weather’s been right.
We have a look at every joint to make sure they’re clean and ready. Any loose bits get removed so the fresh sand can go in properly.
We tip kiln-dried sand across your drive and brush it into every joint with a stiff broom, working it in until every gap is full. No shortcuts.
We compact the sand down so it settles, then sweep away the excess and leave your drive looking spotless. Neat, tidy and job done.
Every time you get your block paving jet washed, you’ll need it re-sanding after, usually once a year. If you notice the sand level dropping between cleans, you can top it up sooner.
We’re a family-run Liverpool business, trading since 2018, with over 200 properties restored and a 5.0 rating. We know re-sanding is just as important as the clean itself, get it wrong and your drive won’t last, get it right and it’ll stay solid for years.
Fully insured, we turn up when we say we will and we don’t leave till you’re happy. Whether it’s a full re-sand after a clean or a top-up, we’ll sort you out properly.
Keep an eye on the sand level in your joints. If it’s looking low, get it topped up before the blocks start shifting. Don’t let weeds get a proper hold, pull them when they’re small. And always use kiln-dried sand, never building sand. If you want the blocks properly protected long-term, pair it with our driveway sealing service.
Our driveway sanding starts from £110. That’s for the application of fresh kiln-dried sand to a small, single-car driveway after it’s been professionally cleaned. Over time, wind, rain and general footfall wash the original sand away, leaving the joints empty, which lets blocks shift and weeds take root. Our starting price covers the kiln-dried sand, the brushes and equipment used to work it into the joints, and the labour of our team. For larger driveways, the price is calculated on square metreage.
In most cases, yes. If you’ve just had your driveway cleaned or you’re looking to get the sand replaced as part of a full restoration, send us a photo of the area and we’ll assess the square footage and joint condition for a firm price. We can often schedule the sanding for the next dry day after the clean, so your driveway isn’t left with empty joints for long, which could let weeds start growing again.
It’s the only sand that should go in block paving joints. Kiln-dried sand is washed, dried in a kiln, then graded to a specific particle size. The drying process removes all moisture, so the sand’s incredibly fine and free-flowing, meaning it brushes deep into the tiny gaps between blocks, which standard builders’ sand simply can’t do. Because it’s dry it won’t clump, so it reaches the bottom of the joint and gives a solid foundation. Once it’s tamped down, it dries hard and locks the blocks together.
Yes, cleaned and fully dried first. If we apply sand to a dirty or damp driveway, it’ll stick to the dirt and won’t penetrate the joints properly. The old sand in the joints is usually contaminated with mud, moss and weed seeds, so brushing new sand over the top means the weeds come back within weeks. The correct process is a jet wash to remove all the old sand and dirt, letting the surface dry completely, then brushing in the new sand. Our full restoration covers the wash, the dry time and the return visit to sand.
Usually 12 to 18 months before it needs topping up. Rain, wind and foot traffic gradually wear the sand down, and once the level drops below the top of the blocks, the joints become a magnet for weed seeds and moss spores. Worth checking every six months, if the level’s dropping, you can top it up yourself with a bag of kiln-dried sand. A lot of customers book an annual maintenance clean that includes a full re-sand as part of the service.
