Ann’s driveway in Southport: weeds gone by the next morning
Ann rang me Monday afternoon around three o’clock about her block paving in Southport, which had gone properly wild with weeds after years of grime working its way into the joints. I told her to send some photos over on WhatsApp so I could get her a price, and by 11am the following morning the job was already done.

What we found on arrival
You could barely make out the herringbone pattern under all the moss and weed growth that had taken hold across most of the drive. Some drives get a bit of moss creeping in round the edges and that’s about the extent of it, but this one had weeds coming through the joints from front to back, with years of black grime sat deep into the block itself. Not the worst I’ve seen by any stretch, but it needed a proper job rather than a quick blast over with the washer.
The clean itself
We went in with sodium hypochlorite first to kill everything off and lift the grime out of the block, then followed up with biocide once that had had time to work through. I don’t always finish block paving with biocide since sanding usually does that job on its own, but with weeds this established I wanted the extra bit of protection while Ann waits on getting the joints re-sanded.
How quick it actually went
Monday at 3pm was the phone call, and we had it finished by 11am the next morning, which isn’t how every job goes since some weeks are busier than others, but when there’s diary space a drive the size of Ann’s is only a couple of hours’ work once we’re set up.
What Ann thought
She left us five stars that same day and called it reasonable price, which is always the bit of feedback I appreciate most, and said in her review that the drive had been overrun with weeds before we turned up. I replied thanking her and let her know I’d see her again once the sanding’s booked in.
What’s still to come
The clean sorts out what’s growing on the drive right now, but the sand in the joints is what actually stops the next lot of weed seed finding somewhere to settle, which is why Ann’s got kiln-dried sanding booked in as a follow-up. Once that’s brushed through and settled, the drive should hold up a lot longer than if we’d cleaned it and left the joints as they were.
